Battlefield or Playground of the Mind?

Just as you mind can be a battlefield; your mind can also be an amazing playground for creative and inspiring ideas. This means you have the awesome power to choose whether you want to thing about struggle, stress, lack and scarcity; or you want to think about wealth, happiness, success and prosperity. You do have the choice – your can choose a battlefield or a playground.

Think for a moment about the imagery around those two arenas. A battlefield, where war goes on; is dark, stark, and there is death in the air. The playground, on the other hand, denotes life, the laughter of children playing. There are bright colors and unlimited possibilities. Imagine those two images going on in the theater of your marvelous mind. This does not need to be a difficult choice, and yet about 95% of the population flood their minds with the battlefield scenes. Why does this happen?

One reason is that most people do not make the conscious choice to choose the playground imagery. Most people are prone towards thinking by default. Whatever dark, devastating thought falls into the mind, they just continue to ruminate on that thought. Rather than making the conscious choice to think about wealth, happiness, success and prosperity, they go to the default mode and think about stress and struggle, lack and scarcity.

Consciously think about a time in your life when you were very happy – filled with so much joy and happiness. Your walk was light and confident and you felt so great. Got it? Now freeze that moment in time. Bring to mind how you felt at that moment. This should bring an automatic smile to your face. How does that feel? Freeze this moment as well. You are going to bottle these two moments of high vibrational feeling. When you catch yourself stepping onto the battlefield of your mind, stop and cancel that thought. Replace it with one of your bottled high vibrational moments… and smile. You cannot smile and think a negative thought at the same time!

Your Thoughts Become Your Story

“We become what we believe.” ~ Sanskrit Proverb

I am sure you have heard the scriptural passage, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” As far back as the beginning of time, this has been true. Today, it is called New Thought, although you can see it isn’t very new. What is new, I believe, is people are becoming more conscious of this truth; yet, it is still a bit confusing for the majority because most people have no idea what they are thinking about.

The easiest way to check in with your thoughts and to gauge what you are thinking is to look at your current reality, the current story you are living. If it is the life you absolutely want and dream about, then you are right. If it is a life of lack, scarcity and struggle, then you are also right. You see, you life story will follow perfectly out of the dominant thoughts you hold. These thoughts lead to your feeling a certain way which causes like vibrations that resonate into your world.

This is why you are to begin to think of your life as your story. Stories not only tell something, but they elicit certain feelings. Just think of your favorite movies. You like those movies because they bring up certain feelings for you. When you tell a story, depending on the nature of that story, you and your hearer will feel a certain way.

Think about how you want to feel on a daily basis. What kind of life will create for you those kinds of feelings? Consciously and mindfully create a new story to match the feelings you want to have.

Today I Will Make A Difference

Today I will make a difference. I will begin by controlling my thoughts. A person is the product of his thoughts. I want to be happy and hopeful. Therefore, I will have thoughts that are happy and hopeful. I refuse to be victimized by my circumstances. I will not let petty inconveniences such as stoplights, long lines, and traffic jams be my masters. I will avoid negativism and gossip. Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my hallmark. Today I will make a difference.

I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me. Time is a precious commodity. I refuse to allow what little time I have to be contaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom. I will face this day with the joy of a child and the courage of a giant. I will drink each minute as though it is my last. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. While it is here, I will use it for loving and giving. Today I will make a difference.

I will not let past failures haunt me. Even though my life is scarred with mistakes, I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures. I will admit them. I will correct them. I will press on. Victoriously. No failure is fatal. It’s OK to stumble…I will get up. It’s OK to fail…I will rise again. Today I will make a difference.

I will spend time with those I love. My spouse, my children, my family. A man can own the world but be poor for the lack of love. A man can own nothing and yet be wealthy in relationships. Today I will spend at least five minutes with the significant people in my world. Five quality minutes of talking or hugging or thanking or listening. Five undiluted minutes with my mate, children, and friends.

Your New Story As Legacy

At the end of your life, you want to look back on your life and enjoy sharing your story. You want to share your story of living a life full of love, peace, joy and prosperity. You want to tell about the gifts you shared with those most in need of your gifts. You want to tell of a life emptied of all of its gifts because life was lived to the fullest. You want other people to speak of you as living a life of loving kindness and loving service; that your life was not only for yourself but for all those you came in contact with.

Your legacy must also be what you think about as you Mind Your Own Story. What will you leave behind for the next generation to pick up and carry on? It does not have to be a Gandhi-sized mission. It could be that you were someone who appreciated everyone and everything in life. Or, you always stopped to give a smile and a kind word to anyone in need of it. Or, you baked or knitted and always shared your handiwork with others.

If the life you are currently living is one of struggle and stress, anger and resentment, then this will become your legacy – unless you make the conscious choice to create a new story. What do you want people to remember you for? I dare say it would be for your compassion and kindness and not as someone who struggled and was so angry all of their life. Think about the legacy you will leave as you Mind Your Own Story.

Transmute What You Do Want

In his classic, “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill writes: “The subconscious mind works day and night. It draws upon the forces of Infinite Intelligence for the power with which it voluntarily transmutes desires into their physical equivalent. To accomplish this it always makes use of the most practical media.”

Your powerful and wonderful subconscious mind is working for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It never stops working; and it is working to manifest your desires into physical form. It will always accomplish this. It will even accomplish this if you impress upon your subconscious what you do not desire. You see, the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between what you desire and what you don’t desire. But it does know what you put a lot of feeling energy into – and that is what it reacts to. If you are constantly pouring very strong emotions into a thought, then the subconscious mind deduces that this is what is important, so let’s transmute that thought and manifest the same – whether positive pr negative.

So, are you pouring most of your energy onto a vessel that speaks of lack, scarcity and never enough? Your subconscious mind will work to create more of it. Or, are you pouring powerful energy into abundance, prosperity and joy? Your subconscious mind will work to create more of that. Although you cannot fully control your subconscious mind, you can control the thoughts you choose to impress upon it that will become your present reality.

You Can Never Tell

“You never can tell what your thoughts will do
In bringing you hate or love;
For thoughts are things, and their airy wings
Are swifter than carrier doves.
They follow the law of the universe—
Each thing must create its kind;
And they speed o’er the track to bring you back
Whatever went out from your mind.”

From “You Can Never Tell” by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, 1895.

“Ms. Wilcox understood the truth that thoughts which go out from one’s mind also embed themselves deeply in one’s subconscious, where they serve as a magnet, pattern or blueprint by which the subconscious mind is influenced while translating them into their physical equivalent. Thoughts are truly things, for the reason every material thing begins in the form of thought-energy.” ~ Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich

Thoughts are truly things and every thing is created twice – first in the theater of your mind, then in your physical reality.

You are divine creators – coming from the Master Creator. So, what are you creating? Most of your creations are from an unconscious place and done on the unconscious level. You are not aware of how powerful your creation skills are. Don’t know what you are creating? Take a look around. Look around at your life, your existence, and your circumstances. You had a hand in creating all of it.

Give Yourself Permission

If you are living a life of lack, scarcity and not enough, it is because you have bought into the belief that there is not enough and life is full of lack and scarcity. Your beliefs are just thoughts you continue to think until they become ingrained. Over time, and because you consistently thought those beliefs, you see them as your truth and you don’t question them. But what if you would just stop, take a breath and give yourself permission to think a different thought regarding money or wealth? What would it be like to just focus your mind on there being more than enough of everything you need and want? Could you see yourself focusing on that thought? Just give yourself permission.

Give yourself permission to think that there is more than enough; that you live in an abundant universe and that you can create whatever you desire – just by thinking in a new way. Wallace Wattles in The Science of Getting Rich calls it thinking in a “certain way.” What is this new and certain way? Thinking by law. Knowing that whatever you reap, you will also sow because the cause precedes the effect. If you plant flowers, you will get flowers; if you plant weeds, you will get weeds. The universe, as the soil, is no respecter of the cause. It will return to you exactly what you put in.

Giving yourself permission is making the conscious decision to be, to do and to have what you truly desire. The choice is yours; give yourself permission to make the wise choice.

Manifestation Meditation

In order for the inner divine process of manifestation to occur, you must create a harmonious alignment of certain factors. First, you must know what it is you truly want to manifest; another words, what do you truly want to be, to do and to have. After getting clarity on your heart’s desire, then you must decide to be, to do and to have that which you desire. It is not enough to know what you desire; you must make the decision to be, to do and to have it. In making the decision, you emphatically ask for what you desire. “You have not because you ask not!” – as the sacred writer says.

So you have gained clarity on what you truly desire to be, to do and to have. You have made the decision that this is what you want to manifest in your life and you have asked the Universal Source, or the God of your understanding for it. Now what? Do you just sit back and wait for it to show up? Absolutely not! Now comes the most important piece of the manifestation puzzle: you meditate daily on your heart’s desire and listen for your next inspired action step. Like the Quakers say, “You pray and move your feet!” in the deliberate and mindful practice of meditating on your heart’s desire, you activate your subconscious mind to bring into your awareness the means to manifest it. It may be a small action step, but taking consistent, small action steps leads to powerful and intentional manifestation of your desires. The manifestation process only works if you choose to work the process!

Just Do It!

“Begin… the rest is easy!”

The famous Nike slogan says it all when it comes to creating a new life story. You have determined that you current story is no longer working for you, and hasn’t been for quite some time. You are in a new place in mind, body and spirit and your life needs to reflect that newness. You make the decision to create a new story by asking yourself what is it you want to be, to do, and to have. Once you have gotten clarity on the answers to these questions, you can then begin to map out what you new story will look and feel like.

The clarity you have about what you want to be, to do, and to have will also help you with your values; the things you will no longer tolerate in your life; your spiritual practices to keep yourself centered and grounded; and even the people and situations that you will allow into your immediate story.

A lack of this kind of clarity causes your story lens to become cloudy and out of focus. You tend to procrastinate on what is important and necessary; you live out of a sense of fear and dread; you worry and doubt more; and your life gets sidetracked by toxic relationships and circumstances.

So, just for today, make the decision to take the leap and begin to create your new life story; then the rest is easy!

Money and the Law of Attraction

“Each and every component that makes up your life experience is drawn to you by the powerful Law of Attraction’s response to the thoughts you think and the story you tell about your life. Your money and financial assets; your body’s state of wellness, clarity, flexibility, size, and shape; your work environment, how you are treated, work satisfaction, and rewards—indeed, the very happiness of your life experience in general—is all happening because of the story that you tell.”

Excerpted from the book Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth and Happiness by Esther and Jerry Hicks

Anyway

Anyway

(attributed to Mother Teresa)

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the FINAL Analysis, it is between you and God;

It was never between you and them anyway.

Originally written as “The Paradoxical Commandments” by Dr. Kent M. Keith in 1968; this version that Mother Teresa put up on the wall of her children’s home in Calcutta was entitled “Anyway” and consisted of eight of the original ten Paradoxical Commandments, reformatted as a poem. Anyway, it speaks volumes.

The Giving Poem

Giving

by Arthur William Beer:

To get he had tried, yet his store was still meager.

To a wise man he cried, in a voice keen and eager;

“Pray tell me how I may successfully live?”

And the wise man replied, “To get you must give.”

As to giving he said, “What have I to give?”

I’ve scarce enough bread, and of course one must live;

But I would partake of life’s bountiful store.

Came the wise man’s response; “Then you must give more.”

The lesson he learned; to get was forgotten,

Toward mankind he turned with a love new begotten.

As he gave of himself in useful living,

Then joy crowned his days, for he grew rich in giving.

The Law of the Mind

If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right!” ~ Henry Ford

One of the greatest graces that we have been blessed with is the power of the mind, our power of thought. Yet, it is the most ill-used power and a faculty that is very much taken for granted. There are a very rare few of us in this day and age who have shackles on our mind and have no power to think. It is this power that renders us conscious and aware; though most of the thinking is done unconsciously and with very little awareness.

Dr. Ken McFarland, the great educator, once surmised that 2% of the population actually thinks; 3% think they think, and 95% would rather die than think! A strikingly sober statistic, I dare say. This means that most of the people are actually not thinking but simple engaging in some mental activity; like re-hashing old thoughts about past regrets and fears that will become their future. This leads to being stuck in the past and not progressing or even living in the present. It is this kind of toxic thinking that leads to creating a life of struggle, lack and scarcity. As Henry Ford stated so succinctly, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right!” The main focus in that statement is your thinking – it is a choice. It is your choice whether you think positive and healthy thoughts that will create your positive and healthy life, or you think negative and toxic thoughts that will create your negative and toxic life. The choice is yours.

To think positive and healthy thoughts, you must have full conscious awareness. You are always creating – you are creating your life every moment of the day. The question becomes what quality of life are your creating?

You must wake up to your life and enter into that elite 2% of conscious thinkers. You hold one of the most powerful tools for creation – your thoughts. Take the time to consciously, mindfully and intentionally exercise that awesome power to create the life you truly desire.

A Problem Here Is A Problem Everywhere

It has been said that the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. So if you are having a challenge or an issue in any area of your life, chances are you are having that same challenge in other areas of your life as well.

I recently received an email from someone who feels stuck – stuck with lack of money, stuck with no job, and stuck with finding a way out of being stuck. This is not an isolated email, it is quite common and I can feel the pain of frustration in those emails. I too have felt stuck and saw no way out of my deep, dark hole. To quote a former client, it is like wading through peanut butter! Can you just picture that visual? There is no clarity and no direction; you just have to keep wading through. As Sir Winston Churchill so aptly put it, if you are going through hell, just keep going! Soon you will see your way out.

The challenge becomes a problem when you stop going – you either stay stuck right where you are or you turn back to where you started. Either way, you do not progress and move forward. If you have done this in one area of your life, say, your career, I dare say, the same patterns of stuckness are showing up in your relationships, your recreational time, and your finances. The way you do one thing is definitely the way you do everything.

Pick one area in your life where you feel stuck or stalled. Take some quiet time to STOP, TAKE A BREATH, and ASK:

  • What is the benefit of not moving forward in this area?

  • What would my story be if I were to move forward?

  • What keeps me from living that story?

Feel free to share your comments here. It takes courage to acknowledge your stuck places; but until that acknowledgment, you will simply remain stuck. Take the first step and keep going!

Monday’s Story – The Man and the Butterfly

One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon. A man sat and waited by the butterfly as it struggled to get out of the cocoon, as it forced its body through the newly formed little hole. Then it seemed to stop making progress.

It appeared to the man to have gotten as far as it could. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped through the remaining cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, though it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand and would be able to support the body that would contract in time. But to his surprise, neither happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with the swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness did not understand was that the struggle was required for that butterfly to get through the tiny opening in its restrictive cocoon. This process was nature’s way of forcing the fluid from the body into its wings, so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Life Is Like A Cup of Coffee

When you are tempted to lose track of what is really important in life, remember that life is like a cup of coffee! Enjoy!

Mind Your Own Business and Story!

You cannot Mind Your Own Story if you are minding other people’s business!

It is so easy to take the focus off of ourselves and begin meddling in other people’s affairs. Why do we do this? Because we do not want to look at ourselves; our own less than lives; our own small existences; or any of the not enoughs in our lives. we would rather tell someone else what not to do, what not to think, how not to feel, who not to marry or steer clear of, what not to wear, and the list goes on and on and on.

As the Master Teacher once said, you must take the large beam out of your own eye before attempting to remove the splinter from someone else’s eye.

Isn’t it interesting how someone can tell you how to live your own life when their life is falling apart? How can you trust someone who won’t even look in their own mirrors to see their same, small stories? When you are seeking peace, would you consult someone whose aim in life is war, violence and destruction? Of course not! Mind and master your own story, your own life before you head over to your neighbor’s house.

One rule of thumb is to only offer advice when it is asked for; and even then, be slow in the offering. Everyone has their own answers within. If they asked the question, then they also know the answers. Nine out of ten times they ask the question because they either doubt their own intuition or they need confirmation of their intuition. Either way, they already know the answers. You can ask them another question that will help them to discover those answers deep within their own hearts.

God Wants You To Know…

A Lovely Note from Author and Teacher, Neale Donald Walsch:

On this day of your life, I believe God wants you to know…

…that you cannot help another who will not help him- or herself.

In the end, all souls must walk their path – and the

reason they are walking a particular path may not be

clear to us…or even to them at the level of ordinary

human consciousness.

Do what you can to help others, of course.  Show

love and caring whenever and wherever you can.

But do not get caught up in someone else’s “story

to the point where you start writing it.

Know what I mean?

Act As If

Up until now, you story has been full of life’s toxins. Those toxins not only fill up your life, but over time they corrode your life. This shows up at your life spinning out of control; losing so much in a short period of time; your physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial health deteriorating; or the stresses of the day causing you to lose your edge. At one time or another, we have all been there, but this should not be our dominant stories.

Creating a new life story, a new reality is about creating new conscious and mindful thoughts and feelings. The stressors mentioned above are not to cause you to think and feel a certain way because this will surely lead to creating more of them. Creating your new story consciously means you begin with the end in mind. What do you want your life story to look like? And how will living that story make you feel? From that place, you can take inspired actions since they will come from a place of consciousness, and not from automatic reactions. You will begin to respond intentionally and consciously – purposefully.

From this state of mind, all of your thoughts and feelings will be in alignment to your envisioned reality and not your present day reality. Then, as author and teacher Dr. Wayne Dyer says, ACT AS IF. Live as if you already have that life you dream of; and soon you won’t have to act anymore.

I Am My Story – My Story Is Me!

“If it’s meant to be, then it’s up to me!”

There is a wonderful metaphorical poem called, “There’s A Hole In My Sidewalk” – check out the poem here. This poem speaks of continually doing something, taking the same action that renders the same disastrous outcome – falling in a deep hole. This is a metaphor for life. We continue down the same path again and again – creating deep ruts – which achieve the same results; results we do not like more want. It is not until the final line of the poem that a different action is taken; therefore a different result is achieved.

How often do you continue down the same path, knowing you will achieve the same unwanted outcome? Why do you do this? Your actions become habitual; they are familiar, comfortable and, in a strange way, safe. It is said that the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t. But is this any way to live life? Is this living life full out, on your own terms? I dare say, it is not.

If it’s meant to be, then it’s up to me! That little rhyme rings very true when it comes to living your life story. If you want to live the life of your deepest desire, then you are the only one who can make it happen. Like the poem, you must come to an awareness of what is not working in your life in order to create a new way of living that will work for you. Once you come to this awareness, then you too can walk down a new street and create a new reality.
