Mind Your Own Story means consciously re-writing a new story – a story that is in alignment with what you truly wish to be and to do and to have. We have been conditioned with a false story – a story told to us by those closest to us.

When you Mind Your Own Story you begin by creating your ideal day. You life begins one day at a time so you begin by creating your ideal day and build on that. Creating your ideal day means every piece and particle of your day – from the moment you open your eyes in the morning until the time you close your eyes to sleep at night. Your ideal day is the day you could live everyday without getting bored or losing your passion.

When you Mind Your Own Story, you use that magnificent spiritual faculty you have been gifted with – your imagination. One of the six spiritual faculties, the imagination has been long forgotten and neglected. Famous athletes use this mental muscle all the time. They picture within the theaters of their minds their extraordinary achievements. They see themselves winning and each and every play it takes to win and get the gold! There have been several documented studies of people using their imaginations to accomplish their goals. So when those athletes win, it is no surprise to them; they have won already within the powerful theater of their minds called the imagination.

It is time for you to tap into this powerful yet incredibly handy mechanism. You already have an imagination – it’s time to dust it off and get full use out of it. Create the life you desire and have always dreamed of. First you must picture yourself being who you wish to be, doing what you wish to do, and having everything you wish to have. Once you can impress this picture on your marvelous mind and stay focused on it, watch it become your reality.

‘Tis the Set of the Sail
by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

But to every mind there openeth,
A way, and way, and away,
A high soul climbs the highway,
And the low soul gropes the low,
And in between on the misty flats,
The rest drift to and fro.

But to every man there openeth,
A high way and a low,
And every mind decideth,
The way his soul shall go.

One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
‘Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.

Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
‘Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

It’s not the wind or the waves or the circumstances that determines how you sail; it is how you show up to the wind, the waves or the circumstances. The only thing you must take responsibility for are your own choices and actions. No matter what the circumstances dictate, you have the power to choose how you will react or respond to those circumstances.

“Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.” ~ Albert Einstein

Napoleon Hills said, “Fear is faith in reverse gear. Fear is a negative belief in something, and belief is the very foundation of faith. Faith is a positive mental attitude in action. Your mental attitude is the sum total of your thoughts at any given time.”

When we were children, we had no problem activating our wonderful gift of imagination. We could imagine anything. I remember when my family would purchase a large household item, like a new television or a washing machine. I was enthralled with the big box that it came in. That box became my fort, my playhouse, my spaceship, my doll house, you name it. And I had no shortage of ideas for what to use that box for. Unfortunately, we were talked out of using that magnificent gift. We had to grow up, be realistic, and get our heads out of the clouds.

But I have some amazing news for you. You still have that gift – yes, it is still a part of you, and you have the ability to activate it anytime you choose. And you want to know something else? You do activate it, quite frequently. The difference is instead of imagining what you do want, you imagine what you do not want, and thus creating a reality that mirrors your imagination. Instead of focusing on your dreams and intentions, you give excessive amounts of attention to your fears and worries. And guess what shows up in your life? You bet! More of your fears and worries.

Just for today, STOP, TAKE A BREATH, and ASK:

What am I giving most of my attention to right now?”

Especially if you are not feeling well emotionally.

Remember, your thoughts precede your feelings; so if you are not feeling okay, then check in with what you are thinking about. You have the ability to choose a different thought; one that is more pleasant; thus making you feel better. Be proactive with your thoughts and your imagination. Use them to create the life you desire.

Here’s to dreaming in color!

“Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity, and you are keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls, family, health, friends and integrity, are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered. And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life”.

Those lines were also written by Brian G. Dyson and he used them at Georgia Tech’s 172nd Commencement Address on September 6, 1991. BGD was the President and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprise at the time. In his Commencement Address, Dyson noted that, “If you drop one of those balls, they will be irrevocably scuffed, damaged, and they will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life”. He then outlined the ways how to strive to balance the life:

1. Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

2. Do not set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

3. Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.

4. Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

5. Do not give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

6. Do not be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us together.

7. Do not be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

8. Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

9. Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you are going.

10. Do not forget that a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.

11. Do not be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

12. Do not use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way. Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a gift, and that’s why we call it the Present.

“You have the power to create. Your power is so strong that whatever you believe comes true. You create yourself, whatever you believe you are. You are the way you are because that is what you believe about yourself. Your whole reality, everything you believe, is your creation. You have the same power as any other human in the world. The main difference between you and someone else is how you apply your power, what you create with your power. You may be similar to others in many ways, but no one in the whole world lives her life the way you do.”

~ From The Mastery of Love by don Miguel Ruiz

You have the power to create. Your power is called choice. You have the power to choose whatever you want. Not choosing is also a choice. But remember, whatever you choose, whatever you create for your life, choose the path of love. The path of love will take you much farther than the path of fear and doubt.

You have the power. It’s your choice. Choose wisely.

Two Kinds of Legacy

by Michael Josephson

When you die, your possessions will be distributed according to a will in which you allocated property to specific people. Objects left in a will are called a legacy.

But “legacy” also has a much deeper meaning.

In Jewish tradition, people write “ethical wills” in which they pass on to the next generation, especially their children, the gift of wisdom and good wishes. This legacy is far more profound and permanent than bequests of property.

An ethical will is often a personal letter to the most important people in our lives. It conveys our values, convictions and hopes. An ethical will is also an autobiography – not of events and dates, but of the insights and intuitions that define who we are and tell the world what we stand for and what we think is important.

These documents provide a priceless and prized source of loving advice and can become treasured family heirlooms. Because they are about ethics, they also can become a moral compass that helps loved ones navigate their way to worthy and happy lives.

Yet no matter how highly cherished these letters can be for those who receive them, the process of writing them can change your perspective and cause you to readjust your own priorities.

What would you put in your ethical will? When you can, begin writing down everything you might want to pass on to the people you love. But know this: Once you start, it will be hard to stop as you’ll experience a surge of thoughts that will engulf you with all the subconscious beliefs that make you who you are and what you will be. According to Socrates, the touchstone of wisdom is to first know thyself. Try it, and you’ll see why.

From The DailyOM

Distracting yourself with talk-radio and television can become mind-numbing if not taken in moderation.

Our lives are typically filled with noise. There are the noises from the outside world that we cannot control, and there are the noises we allow into our lives. These noises, from seemingly innocuous sources like the television and radio, can actually help us avoid dealing with uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. However, using noise as a distraction hurts more than it helps because you are numbing yourself to what may be internally bubbling up to the surface for you to look at and heal. Distracting yourself with talk-radio, television, or other background noises can also prevent you from finding closure to issues that haunt you.

Noise as a distraction can affect us in many ways. It can help you stay numb to emotions that you don’t want to feel, allow you to avoid dealing with problems, distract you from having to think, and make it easier for you to forget reality. Drowning out the thoughts and emotions you find uncomfortable or overwhelming can complicate your issues because it allows them to fester. By tuning out noise and relishing silence, you create the space to experience and express what you are hiding. It is only then that self-exploration can begin in earnest and you can stare down frightening issues. In silence, it becomes easier to let your strongest feelings come forth, deal with them, and find new ways of resolving your problems.

When you go within without the veil of noise to shield you from yourself, you’ll be able to figure out what you need to heal. Embracing silence and introspection allows you to work through your thoughts and emotions and transmute them. Free of the need for noise, you can accept your pain, anger, and frustration as they come up and turn them into opportunities to evolve.

by Valerie Cox

A woman was waiting at an airport one night,

With several long hours before her flight.

She hunted for a book in the airport shop.

Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,

That the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be.

Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between,

Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies and watched the clock,

As the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock.

She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,

Thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”

With each cookie she took, he took one too,

When only one was left, she wondered what he would do.

With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh,

He took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, as he ate the other,

She snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother.

This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude,

Why he didn’t even show any gratitude!

She had never known when she had been so galled,

And sighed with relief when her flight was called.

She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate,

Refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat,

Then she sought her book, which was almost complete.

As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise,

There was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.

If mine are here, she moaned in despair,

The others were his, and he tried to share.

Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,

That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Information Please

by Paul Villard

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember well the polished old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the wooden box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but would listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

I came to realize that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person with the name “Information please,” and there was nothing she did not know. I overheard my father saying to my mother that “Information please” could supply anybody’s number and even give you the correct time of the day.

My first personal experience with this “genie-in-the-bottle” came one day while dad was at work and my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer. The pain was terrible, but there didn’t seem to be any reason for crying because there was no one at home to give me sympathy. I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger. Finally, arriving at the stairway, I saw…the telephone!

Quickly I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver and held it to my ear. “Information please!” I spoke desperately into the mouthpiece just above my head.

A click or two later, a small, clear voice spoke into my ear:

“Information,” she answered.

“I hurt my finger…” I wailed into the phone. The tears came readily enough now that I had an audience.

“Isn’t your mother home?” came the question.

“Nobody’s home but me,” I blubbered.

“Are you bleeding?”

“No,” I replied. “I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts.”

“Can you open your icebox?” she asked. I said I could. “Then chip off a little piece of ice and hold it to your finger,” said the voice.

I did what she said and my finger stopped hurting!

After that, I called “Information please” for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was located. She helped me with my math. She told me that my pet chipmunk, which I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruits and nuts.

Then, there was the time when Petey, our pet canary, died. I called “Information” and told her the sad story. She listened, then said the usual things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was unconsoled. I asked her, “Why is it that birdies should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up in a heap?”

She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, “Paul, always remember that there is another world to sing in.” Somehow, I felt better.

Another day I was on the telephone again. “Information please,” I spoke into the receiver.

“Information,” said the now familiar voice.

“How do you spell ‘fix’?” I queried.

All of these conversations took place on the phone in my childhood home in a small town in the Pacific Northwest.

When I was 9 years old, we moved across the country to Boston. I missed my friend very much. I longed to say, “Information please,” into that old wooden box back home, and somehow I never thought of trying the tall, shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall.

As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me. Often, in the moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.

A few years later, on my way west to college, I had to stop at the airport in Seattle. I had a half hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then, out of the blue, I decided to dial my hometown operator and found myself saying, “Information please.”

Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well. “Information,” she replied.”

I hadn’t planned this, but heard myself saying, “Could you please tell me how to spell, ‘fix’?” There was a long pause. Then came the soft-spoken answer, “I guess your finger must have healed by now.”

I laughed. “So it’s really still you,” I said. “I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time.”

“I wonder,” she said, “if you know how much your calls meant to me. I never had any children, and I used to look forward to your calls.” I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.

“Please do,” she said. “Just ask for Sally.”

Three months later I was back in Seattle. A different voice answered, “Information.” I asked for Sally.

“Are you a friend?” she asked.

“Yes, a very old friend,” I answered.

“I’m sorry to have to tell you this,” she said. “Sally had been working part time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago.” Before I could hang up she said, “Wait a minute. Did you say your name was Paul?” “Yes.”

“Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you. The note says, ‘Tell him I still say there is another world to sing in. He’ll know what I mean.’”

I thanked her and hung up the phone. I knew what Sally meant.

It was the first of May
A lovely warm spring day
I was strolling down the street in drunken pride,
But my knees were all a-flutter,
And I landed in the gutter
And a pig came up and lay down by my side.

Yes, I lay there in the gutter
Thinking thoughts I could not utter
When a lady passing by did softly say
‘You can tell a man who boozes
By the company he chooses’ —

And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

Think about the people you choose to hang out with!

Long ago, a woodsman saved the life of a leprechaun and was given one wish. The woodsman thought for a long time and finally wished that each of his three daughters find a good husband.

But the leprechaun was full of games. “How am I to know what’s good in your mind? I’ll give them husbands, but you can name only one quality and it’s got to be the same for all. What’ll you have? I can make them clever, strong, beautiful, rich – you name it.”

The woodsman said, “Then give me men of good character.”

The leprechaun wasn’t done playing. “And how am I to know what good character is?”

“Do you have children?” asked the woodsman.

“I do,” said the leprechaun.

“And do you love them?”

“More than life itself.”

“Then give my girls the kind of men you want for your children.”

“Ah,” the leprechaun said, “then you shall have honorable men with kind and loving hearts. And I’ll throw in a strong conscience too.”

The woodsman was a shrewd man and a good father. He knew the well-being and happiness of his children depends on the quality of their relationships. The quality of their relationships depends on the quality of the people they are with.

But what if the woodsman was asked what one quality he wants in his own daughters? As a wise father he would again ask for good character. Whether it’s in one’s spouse or oneself, cleverness, good looks, and money are nice, but in the end the most essential quality of a good life is good character.

It is said that we attract what we expect. During my lifetime and in the past several years of conscious study, I have seen this to be very true. Because of our childhood programming, we have been conditioned to expect mostly lack and not enough; especially in the major areas of our lives: career, family, relationships, health and finances. Unless we have retrained our brains and reprogrammed our minds, chances are the choices we make about these life areas are similar to our parents and their parents before them.

How many times have you heard a parent refer to her toddler as shy or timid when she scooted away from you? That child hears that long enough and she will come to believe herself as shy. Now, the fact is, that child is not innately shy – there is no such thing – she learned to become shy because it is what she constantly heard. In similar situations, if that child did not want to be bothered, she perhaps turned her head or averted her eyes. What she expected then was for her mother to make the excuse of shyness. There are hundreds, if not thousands of such examples.

If you have been told all your life that you have some kind of ailment – because your uncle and grandfather had it – then, guess what? You too have that ailment! If you expect it, then you will attract it. Try expecting the opposite of what you believe. If you believe you have some ailment or illness, expect health and wellness. If you believe yourself to be shy, expect to be outgoing and friendly. If you believe yourself to be poor and struggling, expect prosperity and financial abundance.

Everything is created twice – first in your mind, then in your reality. Create in your mind what you expect to be, to do and to have. What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

Create a Supportive Life Story

When you remember that you are the author of your own life story,

you are free to create a masterpiece.

We all have our own life story. It is filled with relationships and events that help shape who we are and what we believe to be true about the world. Depending on our perspective and willingness to grow, our experiences can become fodder for negativity and patterns of playing the victim, or they can fuel a life of empowerment and continued self-development. It is the story we tell ourselves about what happens that makes all the difference.

Take a moment to look at the life story you create for yourself on an ongoing basis. If you generally feel peaceful about the past and trust in your ability to handle whatever comes your way, then you are framing circumstances in a manner that serves you well. On the other hand, if you retain a lot of guilt or resentment and often feel weighed down by life, you may want to start telling yourself a new version of past and present events. No matter who the characters are in your story or what they have done, you are the only one who can give their actions the meaning they will have for you. You are the only one who can define what role you will play in your own life. By taking responsibility for your story, you are able to learn and grow, forgive and find compassion, and most importantly, move on into a brighter future.

From now on, you can choose a life story that supports you. Let it be proof of your own resilience and creativity. Be kind with the roles you give yourself and generous with how many chances you get to learn what you need to know. When you remember that you are the author of your own story, you are free to create a masterpiece.

Before you begin to Mind Your Own Story, you must get clear on what it is you want to be, to do and to have. If these are foggy and unclear, then so will you life be. You must have absolute clarity on your heart’s desire – your burning desire. This is the desire that you were imprinted with when you incarnated into this physical realm. You can also say it is your divine purpose.

Your life should be lived out of your burning desire, that fire that is deep within. Yet for most, the flame has gone very dim as they are living lives of scarcity and not enough. Your burning desire knows there is more than enough; it knows that you have everything inside of you to make that desire a reality; and it knows that only you can so what it takes to make it a reality. No one else can live your true story – only you.

This is why it is so vitally important that you have definiteness of purpose and clarity on that which you want to be, to do and to have. Having this definiteness of purpose and clarity honors your burning desire by bringing it into the fullness of life.

Honoring your burning desire not only manifests for you and authentic life story, but also for the people you care about and who care about you. You see, when you are not living your own authentic story, you are living out of integrity with your divine purpose. Not that you are a bad person – you are certainly not! You are not living up to your fullest and greatest potential, thus robbing the world of your creative magnificence!

by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice –
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.

“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.

You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.

It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.

But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do –
determined to save
the only life you could save.

As you imagine and visualize and verbalize your new story, in time you will believe the new story, and when that happens, the evidence will flow swiftly into your experience. A belief is only a thought you continue to think; and when your beliefs match your desires, then your desires must become your reality.

There is no physical body, no matter what the conditions, that cannot achieve an improved condition. Nothing else in your experience responds as quickly as your own physical body to your patterns of thought.” ~ Abraham-Hicks

Instead of making New Year’s resolutions, why not create a new story. What do you want your 2011 to look like? What do you truly wish to be, to do and to have? Imagine it. Visualize it. Verbalize it. And soon, it will become your reality.

Here’s wishing you all a blessed, safe and prosperous New Year!

On today’s Blog Talk Radio show, I shared this poem and spoke about the journey of grief, loss and pain. This poem was a blessing in my life when I was going through my own grief journey. I pray it blesses you as well.

A Reason, A Season, and A Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is,
you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty;
to provide you with guidance and support;
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it. It is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person,
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

I wish all of my U.S. readers a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving Day!

I wish all of my readers a continuous attitude of gratitude.

We must not wait until special occasions or holidays to truly appreciate everyone and everything in life. The tendency to wait until it is too late must be the exception and not the norm.

I blog because I love to impart knowledge and empower people with the simplest ways to take that knowledge and make their lives better and brighter. Without you, there would be no need. I am grateful to all of you who keep me doing what I absolutely love to do.

Remember that every moment is a gift and you have the power to choose how you will use that gift. Choose wisely!

This story is from Buddhist monk and teacher Thich Nhat Hanh:

One day the Buddha was sitting in meditation in his cave while his most trusted disciple, Ananda, was outside collecting food for their next mealtime. Ananda looked up from his chores when he saw, coming toward the cave, the Buddha’s nemesis, Mara. Mara was a demon king who sought to prevent the Buddha from reaching enlightenment beneath the bodhi tree. Since then he had continued to be a perpetual thorn in the Buddha’s side, so to speak, cultivating greed, desire and hatred in men. Ananda knew this and was immediately enraged by his appearance at the Buddha’s cave.

Ananda approached Mara: “Get out of here! The Buddha does not wish to have his cave invaded by demons!”

Mara replied: “Go and ask him for yourself. I simply wish to speak with your master.”

Reluctantly and nervously Ananda did as the demon king asked and entered the Buddha’s cave. “World Honored One, the demon king, Mara approaches your cave and seeks an audience with you. I have already instructed him to leave but he insisted I ask you myself.”

The Buddha’s eyes opened from his meditation and he smiled, widely. “Mara is here? Really? It has been so long since we have spoken. Yes, yes, ready some tea and invite him in and we’ll talk.”

Dumbfounded, Ananda did as the Buddha asked, putting a pot on the fire to boil and then going outside to tell Mara that he was welcome in the Buddha’s cave. “As I knew I would be, little Ananda,” said the demon king arrogantly, brushing past the Buddha’s humble disciple.

When Mara entered the cave the Buddha rose to his feet, nearly leaping into the air with excitement. “Mara, my good friend, it has been so long since we have seen each other. Please sit, have some tea and tell me why you have come to visit.”

Ananda was very nervous now and listened to the conversation between his master and the demon. Mara sipped his tea slowly and then spoke. “Buddha, things are not going well. I wish to be something else. Something other than Mara.”

Just as you mind can be a battlefield; your mind can also be an amazing playground for creative and inspiring ideas. This means you have the awesome power to choose whether you want to thing about struggle, stress, lack and scarcity; or you want to think about wealth, happiness, success and prosperity. You do have the choice – your can choose a battlefield or a playground.

Think for a moment about the imagery around those two arenas. A battlefield, where war goes on; is dark, stark, and there is death in the air. The playground, on the other hand, denotes life, the laughter of children playing. There are bright colors and unlimited possibilities. Imagine those two images going on in the theater of your marvelous mind. This does not need to be a difficult choice, and yet about 95% of the population flood their minds with the battlefield scenes. Why does this happen?

One reason is that most people do not make the conscious choice to choose the playground imagery. Most people are prone towards thinking by default. Whatever dark, devastating thought falls into the mind, they just continue to ruminate on that thought. Rather than making the conscious choice to think about wealth, happiness, success and prosperity, they go to the default mode and think about stress and struggle, lack and scarcity.

Consciously think about a time in your life when you were very happy – filled with so much joy and happiness. Your walk was light and confident and you felt so great. Got it? Now freeze that moment in time. Bring to mind how you felt at that moment. This should bring an automatic smile to your face. How does that feel? Freeze this moment as well. You are going to bottle these two moments of high vibrational feeling. When you catch yourself stepping onto the battlefield of your mind, stop and cancel that thought. Replace it with one of your bottled high vibrational moments… and smile. You cannot smile and think a negative thought at the same time!

“We become what we believe.” ~ Sanskrit Proverb

I am sure you have heard the scriptural passage, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” As far back as the beginning of time, this has been true. Today, it is called New Thought, although you can see it isn’t very new. What is new, I believe, is people are becoming more conscious of this truth; yet, it is still a bit confusing for the majority because most people have no idea what they are thinking about.

The easiest way to check in with your thoughts and to gauge what you are thinking is to look at your current reality, the current story you are living. If it is the life you absolutely want and dream about, then you are right. If it is a life of lack, scarcity and struggle, then you are also right. You see, you life story will follow perfectly out of the dominant thoughts you hold. These thoughts lead to your feeling a certain way which causes like vibrations that resonate into your world.

This is why you are to begin to think of your life as your story. Stories not only tell something, but they elicit certain feelings. Just think of your favorite movies. You like those movies because they bring up certain feelings for you. When you tell a story, depending on the nature of that story, you and your hearer will feel a certain way.

Think about how you want to feel on a daily basis. What kind of life will create for you those kinds of feelings? Consciously and mindfully create a new story to match the feelings you want to have.
